College Support Staff (Vote Yes To Deal)
The results are in! This week, part-time support staff took a massive step forward in holding our first ever strike vote, and 64% of us have voted “YES”!
Today, part-time college support staff have sent a strong message to our employer who has dragged out negotiations for almost two years: we need a fair deal now.
We know that the employer’s latest proposal doesn’t go nearly far enough: proposing no wage increases for all of 2024, and possibly 2025 is insulting.
We’re fighting for better for all part-timers – including students and casual staff – and to win a collective agreement that ensures dignity in the workplace for everyone.
This looks like
- Fair wage increases
- Paid sick days for all of us
- 24-hour shift cancellation protections
- Enshrining equity and inclusion in our collective agreement, like time off for religious holidays in line with provincial legislation.
- Basic structures like job descriptions, pathways for career advancement and feedback on unsuccessful interviews
Our proposals aren’t unreasonable, they are what we deserve.
Your bargaining team will be entering mediation on November 20th, with a strike mandate in hand to get down to business.
But our power comes from you – the membership. We can’t take our foot off the gas. Instead, we need to continue organizing to keep the pressure up so we can win.
We will keep you informed every step of the way.
